一、单词记忆

要记忆这个单词我们首先复习一个小学的时候我们学过的一个单词，comfortable，形容词，“舒服的”，这个单词是由3个部分组成的，前缀com，表示“共同，一起”，然后fort是词根，“力”的意思，后面的able是个形容词后缀，表示“能够…样的”。comfortable的意思就是大家一起用力，这样每个人就能够轻松，舒服一点。所以comfortable就是“舒服的”意思。

从comfortable这个单词我们就可以知道词根fort是“力”的意思。我们在前面加上前缀ef=ex=e，表示out，“出去”的意思。所以effort，向外用力，就是“努力”的意思。

二、单词用法

1.make efforts to do sth.：努力做某事

例句1：I'll make efforts to help you improve your listening skills.

我将努力帮助你提高你的听力技能。

例句2：The efforts you make are sure to pay off sooner or later.

你的努力迟早会有回报的。

这个句子中you make是定语从句，修饰前面的efforts，这里连接词被省略了。把定语从句单独写成一个句子是You make the efforts.

2.spare no effort to do sth.：不遗余力做某事

She said she would spare no effort to help me.

她说她会不遗余力地帮助我。
